CHARADE

I myself have never suffered from long term depression or anxiety. I like most people have had a bout with it because life happens. We loose a loved one, our spouse leave us, we loose our jobs, our homes, and at times it feels like were loosing our MINDS. But their are people who do, I have seen it first hand. They need meds just to help them make it thur life. That's why "CHARADE" was written. It was written by someone suffering from these issues in life. I am very thankful to GOD because at my lowest point, the worse I did was drink a lot, but I always found comfort in his word or in his house. There was always a seat waiting for me at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where I could sit and let my pastor minister to me about making it thru or to keep on going, because trouble don't last always, and he'll (GOD) will give you double for your trouble. That's how I got thru. I'm not saying this is for everyone, it was for me! If you need your meds, take them, if you need your doctor, go to them that's why they are there. But if you find that none of that is working, and man is not doing it for you, TRY GOD!
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, Because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance, Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea blown and tossed by the wind. JAMES 1:2-6

Prayer for Obama

May the Lord keep you in his everlasting arms
May he give you wisdom when you need it
And grace when you seek it
May he calm your mind with his words
And your heart with his love
May he watch over you
Your family
This nation
And this world
For we are all a part of it
And need each other, to continue in it
This is my prayer

God, Rap, Prayer & Wisdom

I’ve wanted to share my thoughts on this subjust for quite a while. I’ve learned that if something is constantly on your mind it may be something you should act on. I would bet my last dollar that a lot of the rappers today came from a background that either they or members of their family have a strong church foundation and believe in God, as I do. I read my bible for guidance, leadership & wisdom, as it is the best book ever!

Over the past year or so Maylay Entertainment has went thru a lot of changes. I’ve seen many of my artists go thru some changes also and as always I pray for them. These young men have had to make some hard decisions, their families aren't as stable as they should be and life has given them unfair advantages. I continue to pray, as my staff and I try to assist them any way we can. I pray that theses young men always make good choices and ignore the small things and the small people. What has all this praying done? It has made a difference in our lives and theirs, do they have less struggles no, but I always ask for God’s grace and mercy for them. God answers prayer everyday. I am amazed when I see what he has done for these young men, he has made them better, and wiser with a tenacity to succeed that some adults don’t have. I am very proud of them. I will continue to pray for them and their families because prayer truly does change things. It doesn't matter if you’re a rapper, God loves you just as much as the preacher.

I don’t want to come off as some sac religious chick and I am very rough around the edges and God is still working on me, daily. However, I will continue to pray for these young men, this company and the world, and if you’d like, even for you, because a little prayer goes a long way.

Freedom Of Expression....

We get of people commenting on our music and our freestyle videos. The fact that on the music itself there is very little or no cussing at all. But on freestyle they cuss. If I had it may way there would be no cussing at all. But I had to think about that for a while and ask myself I am limiting their freedom of expression. And yes I was- I can't force my ideals on someone else even thou it's my company. Every one should have the right to express themselves-this is America right? This is the conclusion I came to--the freestyle videos are actually therapy it gets a lot of deep feelings and emotions out, that's what I was told. I can't stop them but they are getting the picture, they are expanding their vocabulary. Thinking about how they want express themselves without the "colorful" expletive's. I understand that this is the kind of language some of them grew up around --but it's not the kind of language that has to stay around

Criticism.....

We get a lot of people who want us to critique their music. If you really want to know if your music is good or not, pick someone you know who is far removed for your inner circle of friends and family. Ask them to listen and give their honest opinion. But you as an artist have to be prepared for the criticism. Not every one in the music business is good, but if you really want to know, ask someone.
I’ve been thinking about charting our Journey in the music industry for a while. The trails we face as an Indie with great music are quite challening. First I want to thank all of our MySpace fans for your support, you like so many others are wondering why we haven’t hit main stream. It’s not that we haven’t sent our music out to main stream radio - it’s that we don’t know the right people. Unfortunately we still live in a radio world where we have encountered , pay me to play, or I don’t know you and you didn’t use our people for your beats so I’m not going to play your music. However I still believe that we have something to say and were not quiting. I find it had to believe that what we hear on the radio these days are really the reflection of our society. Our music speaks to the everyday life of a lot of our young people. I’m Sorry Ma- reflects on Element telling his mother I have a baby on the way… Gunplay relects on an issue a lot of young people have with police pulling you over “just cause” Should I Choose talks about some of the choises The Gutta Boyz had to make, should I choose to go school or deal drugs to put food on my table and what about us living in this ghetto. Urban talks about making it and having a refrigerator full of food for his family and how his family has been broke for years. Half/dead reflects on people who have betrayed him .We also have fun with our music. I never want our music to be meaningless it should make you dance or make you think. We will continue push our music and IT WILL GET PLAYED….Were just wondering who will break Maylay Entertainment’s music…who ever you are.., you will surely be blessed. So call your local radio stations in the Chicagoland area, they all have our music.

There’s more to come….Trust me……

Hip Hop.---- Conform for the Cause

One thing I always tell my artist, write about your life and you can't go wrong. I find it disappointing that it is so hard to get my music played on radio stations. It's music about a young man telling his mother he has a baby on the way, or should I choose to go to school today or deal drugs to put food on the table. And the decision to choose to go to school. I always thought I could do something different when I ventured into Hip Hop. But today I feel little defeated. I find that I may have to conform. Conform for the Cause. I've never been a conformist so this is very different territory for me. Have you ever had to conform? DO SHARE! http://www.Maylayent.com

Doing Things Diffently....

Welcome to my blog...My name is Youlanda Burnett I am CEO of Maylay Entertainment. My main focus is to show Hip Hop in a different light. No cussing no women in videos that are half dressed. No degrading of women. I must say stating this venture was not easy I wanted so hard in the beginning to have my music be profanity free but the people that were in my organization at the time did not see it that way. It's hard sometimes to share your vision with people when your constanly being told it can't be done. So after 4 years of trying to push the issue, people leaving and letting you down. I have found the young men that have embraced my vision for Maylay. If you never give up and keep going things will happen.
